Joining STC

New members are always very welcome to join whether actors, backstage, technical or Front of House, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please email The Chairman (see contacts page) and we will arrange for you to come along, probably to a rehearsal to see what goes on and have a chat. The current membership subscription is only £20 per year.  Junior members (under 18 years) £4.

Patrons are also very important to the Theatre Company; their subscriptions form a key part of STC funding. Becoming a Patron entitles you to two free tickets to each main STC production during the Membership Year, together with the regular newsletter and a standing invitation to all STC social activities. The annual patron subscription is £35.

If you have ever thought that you would like to get involved with staging a play on a real stage with real stage equipment, now is your chance. You may have been involved with amateur Theatre before, or indeed may currently be, but feel you would like to do more. You may have always wanted to be part of a production but never got round to it. Well, this is your opportunity to really make a difference to our productions.

Stourbridge Theatre Company  stages two or three main productions a year plus a number of smaller productions. Each of these productions need people to take responsibility for all of the roles, including; directing, stage management, lighting, sound, FOH management, props, costumes, publicity, oh and, of course, acting! As is often the way, perhaps with organisations like STC, many of the roles are frequently taken by the same people, time and again. We want to bring in new people, with an interest in these roles, so that you will be able to take them on in the future. This could be for our next production, depending on experience, but we would also be happy to guide those with less knowledge to fulfill these roles.

We welcome anyone who has the enthusiasm and commitment to become involved in what is a very absorbing hobby. Members of The Theatre Company all work together to ensure that at 7.30pm on the opening night everything is ready for the stage manager to open the curtains and cue the lights and sound. It’s not an easy task but it’s what we do.

It is envisaged that a new member, with an interest in a particular role, would work alongside an existing, experienced member with a view to taking on the role as soon as they felt comfortable. Ideally, we hope to get to a point where the production team does not comprise the same people each time.

If you would like to have an informal discussion please contact Tim (Chairman) through the contact page of this website.

We have a short Welcome Booklet which you may also like to see, click on the link here:- .

A little bit about Stourbridge Theatre Company, from 1930 to today

The Company was founded in 1930, it was originally called The Stourbridge Play Readers later to become Stourbridge Dramatic Society. In 1998 it was formed into a limited company called Stourbridge Theatre Company Limited, a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. It is run by a board of directors who are elected at an annual general meeting, held in the autumn.

Once you have joined you will be asked to pay an annual membership subscription. This entitles you to audition and perform in any production, become involved back stage or front of house and vote at the Annual General Meeting. Members also receive a regular newsletter to keep them up to date with what’s happening.

We do two or three productions a year. These include, thrillers, period dramas, Shakespeare, comedies, children’s fantasies and farce.  In addition we enter theatre festivals and present other smaller scale productions from time to time.  We mainly  perform at Stourbridge Town Hall Theatre.

We usually rehearse for about three months prior to a production, from 7.30pm to 10.00pm every Monday and Thursday. Sometimes we will have additional rehearsals on a Sunday afternoon just before the production week. Rehearsals are held at a school in Stourbridge.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us for further information.  We look forward to hearing from you.
