Stourbridge Theatre Company has previously presented the very popular Blithe Spirt three times over the years, 1979, 1993 and the last time in 2009. So here we go again with production number four.

Blithe Spirit is a comic play by Noël Coward, described by the author as "an improbable farce in three acts” The play concerns the socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, who invites the eccentric medium and clairvoyant Madame Arcati to his house to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book. The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his wilful and temperamental first wife, Elvira, after the séance. Elvira makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles's marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who cannot see or hear the ghost.

It is a play that has undoubtedly stood the test of time and is as entertaining today as it was when first seen in the West End in 1941. It ran for 1,997 performances, a new record for a non-musical plays in London. It also did well on Broadway later that year, running for 657 performances. The play was adapted for the cinema in 1945; a second film version followed in 2020.

Our posters shows Georgia Sanders who plays the eccentric Madame Arcati, she is holding the crystal ball used in the previous two productions.
